Happy New Year and welcome to the revamped ITGUY blog! We have big exciting 2018 plans which we want to share with you, as well as telling you all about the best IT support for small businesses in London.
New Year, New Us!
Yeah, yeah, we know everybody says that but ITGUY has big plans for this year and can’t wait to get cracking! After a bit of a rethink towards the end of last year, we have decided to expand our little business and take on more managed service contracts.
The decision just means we aim to be a little bit more tactical with the clients we take onboard. We want to attract clients who understand that intelligently spending money to save time is sensible business practice.
This year will be the year to keep an eye on our blog too, as we are going to be talking lots about IT support, what is important to you and how our dedicated team of IT geeks can help your business.
We aim to produce some great content in general for our website. This year we are going to talk – a lot! Our guys have some great content ideas cooking away in their brains, so stay tuned for more things like our 10 Point IT Checklist booklet.
Of course, we also need a way to get all of this information out to you all, so establishing a customer newsletter is a top priority for us, as is growing our social media presence. Talking of which, can you give our Facebook page a cheeky ‘like’ or go Tweet us @itguy_london.
Expanding into new markets is also key for us this year. Providing IT support for small businesses in London is what we do best, but we won’t pigeonhole ourselves too much. We will be focussing on helping the property sector this year, so architects, builders, letting agents – come say hello! Our weekly blog posts will feature a whole range of topics, but the property sector can expect a few aimed their way.
Business IT Support London
Of course, we don’t need to completely overhaul ourselves for the new year…we have provided IT support for small London businesses for over ten years, so we know a thing or two and know the level of service you all expect. Our service has always been stellar, and we plan to keep it up this year – just on a bigger scale!
Gone are the days when we were a one-man band, peddling across London on a bicycle – ITGUY has steadily grown, moving more and more into business and organisation support, expanding our team and moving into our new office. We now provide business IT support for over 100 businesses in London and want to make that number even bigger this year!
What makes ITGUY different to those other London guys though? We would like to say that it’s our team’s good looks, (in pur-ticular Marvin Miaowvin – Sardine Network Engineer), but it’s actually our excellent service, plain speaking and the fact that we really care about our lovely clients.
So, if you are on the lookout for your ITGUY in London, give us a shout.
Data and Security In 2018
Before you go, we need to talk to you quickly about some boring but important stuff….
GDPR Is Coming
Data and security is big news every year, but with online crime constantly rising and GDPR coming up, 2018 will be all about these two key business elements.
The biggest topic will, of course, be The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You would have to have been under a rock last year to have escaped this important topic. GDPR is a new regulation, which aims to bring data protection legislation into line with the previously unforeseen ways that data is now used. In a nutshell, the EU wants to give people control over how their personal data is used.
The current legislation exists at a time before the internet and cloud technology created new ways of exploiting data and GDPR seeks to address that. Because GDPR is a regulation, not a directive, it will apply automatically to all member states. The UK leaving the UK (Brexit) doesn’t affect it either– the legislation will still apply. We will explain all of this in more detail in a forthcoming post so keep an eye on our blog and social media channels.
In the meantime, if you are worried about GDPR, ITGUY know what you need to do in order be 100% compliant, so if you’d like to speak to someone who can help steer your business in the right direction, and translate the legislation into clear English get in touch with us today. Remember, the legislation comes into force and becomes law on 25th May 2018, so you’ve not got long!
The Cyber Essentials scheme is set to remain a hot topic this year too. Although the scheme is optional (unless you supply services to the Government), holding the accreditation shows a big commitment to online safety and can make you a more attractive provider of services. The scheme identifies fundamental security controls that you need to have in place to help defend against cyber threats. By deploying these controls, your business will be able to defend against the most common forms of cyber-attack.
ITGUY can help prepare you for a Cyber Essentials accreditation and ensure the correct controls are all set in place. Let us know if it’s something your business is looking to achieve in 2018.
